Sinusitis Treatment

The sinuses around the eyes and nose are spaces that are used to create mucus that is a vital part of our immune system. When you breathe, bacteria, dust, pollen and viruses that enter through your nose are trapped in the sinus mucus, keeping these contaminants out of your respiratory system. When the sinus tissues become swollen and mucus thickens, it is called sinusitis, which can impact sinus and breathing function. At Beverly Hills Concierge Doctor, we offer sinusitis treatment at our urgent care center in Los Angeles, CA.

Sinusitis can be caused by colds, allergies, smoke exposure or blockages in your nasal passages. When the sinuses are inflamed and the mucus cannot drain correctly, it can compromise the effectiveness of the sinuses. Sinusitis can often transition into a sinus infection, either viral, bacterial or both. The symptoms of both acute sinusitis and sinus infections are similar.

Symptoms of Sinusitis

If a cold or hay fever affects your sinuses, you may feel the pressure around your eyes and nose if you have sinusitis. As the tissues become swollen and the mucus thickens, it can cause a variety of symptoms. Some of the symptoms of acute sinusitis include:

  • Greenish or yellowish mucus draining from the nose (runny nose)
  • Mucus draining down the back of the throat (postnasal drip)
  • Bad taste in the mouth or bad breath
  • Tenderness around the eyes, noses and cheeks
  • Headaches and facial/forehead pain
  • Nasal congestion and difficulty breathing through the nose

Sinusitis can clear up on its own, usually in about a week. If a viral or bacterial infection occurs, it may last longer. Anyone who has sinusitis symptoms for more than a week or has a high fever should seek medical attention. If you have recurrent sinusitis, you may have chronic sinusitis.
